The Coffee Factory has been established in May of the year 2004 with the initial intention to set up a coffee roaster on the island, produce a variety of Café Barista coffees, and be the only coffee supplier on the island that freshly roasts its own gourmet coffee beans. Strategic alliances were set up with companies in Colombia, Chile, USA and Italy in order to guarantee the best available quality and to maintain high standards. The finest green coffee beans from the best coffee regions in Colombia were imported, locally roasted, grinded and packed for distribution. Clients wanted to have their coffee at the office as well, the same counts for their restaurants and soon office coffee systems and espresso machines followed with a technical department to maintain the machines.
In 2004, I quit my job, sold my car, rented my house, moved to a small apartment and started my company with nothing. With the excess cash I had, I rented the Mahaai location, bought a roaster and coffee machine and used a moneybox with one key as my cash register. I also did some interior changes. At that time I started dating my wife and some of the furniture in the shop came from her apartment.
